The Nelsan Horton American Legion Post #104 of Litchfield has announced its selections for the 2026 Boys State – Hawkins Nyholm and Anden Hilker. They both attended Boy’s State at St. John’s in Collegeville June 8th through the 14th.
Hawkins is the son of Leslie & Jason Nyholm. His extra-curricular activities include track, cross country, trap shooting and he also participates with the Civil Air Patrol – holding the rank of 2nd Lieutenant. He’s interested in continuing his education, preferably at a military academy.
Anden Hilker, son of Krystal Chapin and Jeremy Hilker, attends Litchfield High School. His extra-curricular activities are marching band (trumpet), fishing, shooting, camping and FFA. He plans to continue his education at Bemidji State and would like to become a DNR conservation officer or pursue forestry.
Post #104 presented Hawkins and Anden with a college scholarship to continue their education after high school – after completing the Boy’s State program.
Boys State is an American Legion program in local and state government in which the selected students participate in an actual learning experience. Students select their own officials in accordance with regular election procedures. They organize and operate their own city, county and state governments. Bills are introduced and debated in their legislature. Justice is administered by their own law enforcement agencies and courts. In this program, they witness the democratic process and have the opportunity to learn that their government is just what they make of it.
