G.A.R. Hall & Meeker Museum Upcoming Events
The G.A.R. Hall and Meeker County Museum will be hosting a couple of events this month for anyone interested in local or Civil War history. The monthly Civil War Roundtable meeting is coming up on September 10th at 1:30 p.m., and then there will be a special program at 7 p.m. on September 24th to revisit Litchfield’s Centennial celebration from 1969.
Museum Executive Director Danelle Erickson says they came across slides from the 1969 Centennial, digitized them, and with all of the America 250th anniversary hoopla this year, thought it would be interesting to look back at the big celebration that was held in Litchfield in 1969. She says it’s a free program, but donations are always welcome.
Erickson says the Civil War Roundtable meeting next Thursday at 1:30 p.m. will feature speaker George Romano. She says he’ll be talking about Lew Wallace who was a general, politician, artist, diplomat and author of “Ben Hur.”
Erickson says Family Research Month is coming up in October and the Meeker County Museum is a great place to get help if you’re working on your family history. She says the museum at 308 North Marshall Avenue in Litchfield is open Tuesdays through Fridays from 10-to-4 and on Saturdays from noon-to-4, and donations are always welcome.
