Litchfield City Council Meeting
The Litchfield City Council has approved of the preliminary levy for 2027. An increase of 6.9% from the previous year was approved by the Council Tuesday evening.
The total preliminary levy is $4,333,020 and the preliminary budgets include the general budget of $7,623,412 and the debt service budget of $809,575. The truth-in-taxation hearing is set for 6 p.m. on December 7th.
The Council has approved of the plans and specifications and advertising for bids for the wastewater treatment facility improvement project. Paul Saffert of Bolton & Menk says bids will be opened October 29th and bids should be awarded in December with the 3-year construction taking place in 2027, 2028 and 2029. He says the estimated cost of the project is between 55 and 60-million dollars.
The Council approved of several Heritage Preservation Commission certificates of appropriateness with most of the projects being part of the downtown Litchfield façade program. The properties whose projects were approved include 100, 109-to-113, 134, 202, 214, 217 and 241 North Sibley Avenue.
A request from Gilbert Dick to install a bench in Lake Ripley Cemetery was tabled until the Council has a chance to discuss the matter and other cemetery regulations during a work session on September 21st. The Litchfield City Council also approved of a tax abatement for a portion of the 2026A bonds for the construction of Johnson Drive and reconstruction of 260th Street.
