Litchfield School Board Meeting

The Litchfield School Board has approved of the proposed levy certification. The preliminary 2027 levy is $6,657,297.37 – an increase of $28,050.21 over the 2026 levy.

Business Manager Jesse Johnson says it’s an increase of just .42% and says the modest levy increase is driven by state-mandated aid shifts due to rising local property values, rather than new operational spending, and declining enrollment estimates which have helped to keep the general fund levy lower than it otherwise would have been. The truth-in-taxation hearing will be held at 6 p.m. on December 14th.

High School Assistant Principal/Activities Director Justin Brown and Middle School Principal Chelsea Brown spoke to the board about their recommendation of incorporating the Middle School Activities Director with the Community Education Director position. Justin Brown says it’s a good fit and is done in several other school districts. The topic generated a great amount of discussion and the issue will be brought up for a vote at the October 12th meeting.

New Litchfield High School Student Council President Cole Palmer spoke to the Board about some of the new ideas that the students are working on this fall including a Halloween fundraising event at the Litchfield Area Recreation Center. He says they just completed homecoming week and will be coordinating a blood drive in November.

Also last night, the Litchfield School Board approved of a resolution accepting donations including: $4,000 from the LCD Hockey Boosters for Litchfield High School for HUDL for Boys Hockey; $3,000 from the Litchfield Eagles Club for Litchfield High School for Safety Barriers and Field Goal Posts; $250 from the Meeker County Corn Growers for the Litchfield High School FFA Program; and $200 from the Litchfield Kiwanis Club for Litchfield Middle School for Counseling Supplies.
