Meeker County Board Meeting

The Meeker County Board of Commissioners has approved of a resolution requesting that Mn/DOT conduct a speed study on portions of County-State-Aid-Highways 1 and 11 on the west side of Litchfield. Public Works Director Phil Schmalz says the study would determine if the current speed limits in that area are appropriate or if a change is necessary. He says the area includes about a 3-mile stretch from the “Dairy Queen” road towards Lake Ripley where the speed limit is currently 55 mph.

Land Use Records Director Greg Schultz presented a conditional use permit to the Board Tuesday morning for Wagner Dairy in Section 28 of Forest City Township. The permit was approved for Wagner to install an anaerobic digester to produce raw natural gas, and a change was also approved for feedlot manure handling at Wagner Dairy. The Commissioners also gave Schultz permission to offer the Transfer Station/Demolition Landfill property for sale at 63701 293rd Street in Section 30 of Forest City Township.

Property Records, Taxation and Elections Manager Holly Nelson asked the Commissioners to approve of a County Canvas Board which will consist of the County Auditor, Court Administrator, the Mayor of the County’s most populous city and two County Commissioners who are not up for election which will meet on August 27th at 9 a.m. following the special state primary and on November 5th at 10 a.m. following the special state general election. County Commissioners Cheryl Van Ort and Darren Sombke were appointed to the Canvas Board. The Board also approved of a resolution establishing an Absentee Ballot Board.

In the Consent Agenda, the Meeker County Commissioners approved of a quote from Marco for switches, hardware and licensing, and approved of the 2025-27 strategic plan which County Administrator Andrew Letson had presented at the last meeting. The Board also heard an annual report from IT Director Rob Oster.
