Meeker County Sheriff’s Office Observing 25th Anniversary of 911

The Meeker County Sheriff’s Office is observing the 25th anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks – along with Litchfield Fire and Rescue personnel. The law enforcement staff will be climbing stairs in an effort to climb 110 flights of stairs – equal to the floors of the World Trade Center.

Sheriff Brian Cruze says they are also participating with the Fire and Rescue members as they have a display at the Depot Street/Sibley Avenue intersection in Litchfield and will be walking along Sibley Avenue from Depot Street to 4th Street and back. He says it’s important that we never forget what happened that day and how it brought Americans closer together.

Sheriff Cruze says 9-11 is also a time to remember the nearly 3,000 people who lost their lives on this date 25 years ago. He says the Minnesota Sheriff’s Association is in the midst of its annual scholarship promotion, so if anyone is considering a career in law enforcement, they can find applications at the Meeker County Sheriff’s Office or on the Minnesota Sheriff’s Association website.

Sheriff Cruze says Meeker County provides law enforcement for Watkins, Dassel, Grove City and Cosmos and they are in the process of renewing 2-year contracts. He says the smaller communities often have 3 choices – have no law enforcement, have their own police department or contract with the county for law enforcement coverage.
