Ecumen of Litchfield has adult day services available for older adults who need a place to go while their caregiver is attending to other needs. Adult Day is available Mondays through Fridays from 8-to-4.
Dawn Doty says arrangements can also be made for after hours or weekends, depending on staff availability. She says some people utilize Adult Day every day while others use it certain days depending on what they need, and there is a minimum of 4 hours per week.
Doty says the cost for Adult Day is $19 an hour and some services may be added such as a whirlpool bath or foot care, and they are offering a complimentary 3-hour visit which includes lunch for people who may just want to try it. She says the people in Adult Day are able to participate in all kinds of activities.
Doty says the biggest component of Adult Day is socialization, and it gives caregivers a break.
Nicole Larson says Ecumen currently has one apartment available at Emmaus Place and there may be an opening soon at Bethany. She says there may also be some apartments available at Gloria Dei, and if anyone is interested in seeing an apartment, they may call her to schedule a tour by calling her at 320-373-6370.
Larson says Ecumen is hosting the Good Friday service on April 3rd at 10 a.m. in the Chapel, and will also host a blood drive in the Chapel on April 30th from 9-to-4. She says Ecumen will also have representatives at the Grove City Area CARE senior health expo this Wednesday morning at Trinity Lutheran Church in Grove City.
The Grove City Area CARE program is hosting the We Care About You senior health expo on Wednesday from 9-to-11:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church. Everyone is welcome.
CARE Volunteer Coordinator Rosie Dilley says the event will be held in the Trinity Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall on East Highway 12 in Grove City. She says there will be a continental breakfast, door prizes and information available from 35 vendors. She says there will be some of the vendors from past expos, some new ones, and they are also going to have a time of music therapy.
Dilley says if anyone would like more information about the health expo or about any of the other services available through the Grove City Area CARE program, they may call the CARE office at 320-857-2274. She says donations to the program are always welcome and may be sent to Post Office Box 192 in Grove City.
A 22-year-old Grove City man was killed in a 2-vehicle crash Saturday morning, just outside of Litchfield on Highway 24. The Minnesota State Patrol responded to the crash at 1:46 a.m. near the intersection of 620th Avenue in Litchfield Township, along with the Litchfield Fire and Police Departments, the Meeker County Sheriff’s Office and Mayo Ambulance.
A 2002 Chevy Malibu, driven by 22-year-old Eben Junior Laidlaw of Grove City, was westbound on Highway 24 when it struck a 2004 Ford F150, driven by 22-year-old Joseph David Johnson of Litchfield, which was going eastbound on Highway 24 at 620th Avenue. Laidlaw was not wearing a seatbelt. He was taken to Meeker Memorial Hospital where he died from his injuries. Alcohol is suspected, but results are pending. Johnson received non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to Meeker Memorial Hospital. According to the State Patrol it’s unknown if Johnson was wearing a seatbelt and alcohol was suspected.
Meeker County Sheriff Brian Cruze announced last week that he will be running for a 4th term. With his reelection announcement, the Meeker County Sheriff outlined some goals that he’d still like to accomplish and touted successful highlights of his tenure, so far.
Prior to his first election as Sheriff, Cruze had spent years on patrol, working on the narcotics task force and working as a detective with the Meeker County Sheriff’s Office. He says ridding the community of drug crime has been a priority and in the past few years, record amounts of drug-related arrests have been made and record amounts of drugs have been taken off of the streets.
Sheriff Cruze says it would be nice to put more time and resources into mental health components which can tie in to different types of crime, and they’ve been working with Social Services on programs to try to help people and to try to make sure they don’t return to jail. He says rehabilitation is not part of their job description and when people leave jail, they are out of their control, but they try to help people get on the right track.
Sheriff Cruze says the remodeling of the Court House into the Justice Center and the improvements made to the Law Enforcement Center over the past couple of years has improved their space and security, and the upgrades to equipment have helped the overall operation. He says he’d like to thank his staff for all of their hard work during his years as sheriff.
Sheriff Cruze says he’d also like to thank his wife and kids for their support because it’s not always easy for them as he’s in the public eye. He says his record speaks for itself as community engagement has been a priority for him along with keeping up with technology, and he’s hoping to be elected to another 4-year term in November.
