Passing of KLFD Owner/Operator Steve Gretsch
If you’ve turned on KLFD any morning over the past twenty years, you’ve heard the voice of Steve Gretsch. The station owner – also known as “the Giant” – passed away unexpectedly Friday, doing what he loved – riding his motorcycle.
Steve wasn’t just part of KLFD. In a lot of ways, he was the voice of it — mornings, local sports, more commercials than any of us could count. If you called in, if your kid’s game got a shoutout, if you just needed to know what was happening in this town — chances are, Steve told you.
Off the air, he was the same guy. A dad, a grandpa, a golfer who never missed a season at Albany Golf Club, a guy who’d rather be out in the community hanging with family and friends than sitting still. We’re going to miss him more than we probably know how to say on the radio.
Our thoughts are with his wife Patty, his kids, his grandkids, and everyone who loved him. Steve’s mass service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 12th, at Seven Dolors Church in Albany. Visitation will be 9-to-11 a.m. Celebration of life reception will follow at Shady’s Sunset Bay in St. Anna.
Thanks for letting him be part of your mornings for as long as he was.
