Shooting in Union Grove Township
On Friday afternoon at 4:45 p.m., a Meeker County Deputy was parked on 365th Street at Minnesota Highway 4. A vehicle pulled up next to the deputy and the driver began to exit the vehicle with blood visibly coming from the mouth. The driver, 78-year-old James Poirot of Sherburn, suffered an apparent gunshot wound to the side of his face and head while driving south on Minnesota Highway 4 in the area of 380th Street in Union Grove Township. Deputies provided immediate medical care to the driver until CentraCare ambulance arrived and transported him to Paynesville Hospital. The driver was then airlifted to HCMC with serious but non-life threatening injuries. The preliminary investigation indicated an individual was target shooting on their family-owned land and an errant round struck the driver. A search warrant was executed in relation to this case and evidence was recovered. The case remains under investigation.
