Willmar Police Investigating Shooting
Willmar police say a man was hit by a bullet as he was about to enter the McDonald’s on South First Street Thursday afternoon. At 12:40 p.m. police were called to the restaurant on a report of a weapons complaint. A man was about to enter the business when he was hit by a small-caliber bullet, even though no gunshots were heard in the area at the time.
The man was taken to CentraCare Rice Hospital for treatment of the non-life-threatening wound. Police interviewed him and canvassed the area. Officers say it does not appear the victim was targeted and they do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the public. Right now, they are treating it as a case of reckless discharge of a firearm.
The case remains under investigation. Anyone with information, including surveillance footage or suspicious activity in the area around the time of the incident, is asked to contact the Willmar Police Department at 320-231-3100, extension 3216, and ask for Detective Erickson.
