The Litchfield Area Mentorship Program has Ham Bingo on Friday evening at the Litchfield Eagles Club. The doors open at 5 p.m. and bingo starts at 6 o’clock.
Judy Hulterstrum says there will be 20 games and they are $1 each with the winner of each winning a ham – plus the winner of the last game getting a ham and $25, and they will have dobbers for sale if you need them. She says there will be raffle baskets, prizes for kids, a $25 adult door prize, and they are doing a 50/50 raffle this time.
Hulterstrum says Ham Bingo is a fun way to raise money for LAMP. She says if anyone is interested in becoming a mentor, call her at 320-699-1616. LAMP board member Jo Carlson says she’s putting a sports-related basket together for Ham Bingo. She says the Eagles Club is a great venue for this event.
Carlson says she’s never won a ham herself, but she keeps attending Ham Bingo because it’s so much fun. She says the guys from Simms Napa Auto Parts will be helping with Ham Bingo again this year. Mitch Simmons says they had so much fun last year. He says it was one of the funnest events of the whole year.
Simmons says he and his Napa Auto Parts staff will be delivering food to the Ham Bingo patrons who order items off of the menu and they will be clearing tables.
A major project is in the works at Central Counties Cooperative in Litchfield. The old fuel tanks are being removed and new ones should be installed at the Cenex c-store within 6-to-8 weeks.
General Manager Justin Schroeder says two pumps are gone already and the full project will begin on Monday. He says temporary pumps will be set up on the east side of the complex.
Schroeder says the project will take 6-to-8 weeks as it will take time for the concrete to cure in stages. He says when it’s all done, one of the items they will be adding is E15.
Litchfield Community Theatre presents “Annie Jr.” tonight, tomorrow night and Saturday night at 7 p.m. and on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. in the Bernie Aaker Auditorium. About 3 dozen young people have been working hard over the past couple of months getting ready for the production.
“Annie Jr.” is similar to “Annie” – just a little shorter in length. The cast includes students from four different school districts. The story begins in an orphanage in the 1930s. On April 8, 2025, at approximately 8:49 p.m., the Kandiyohi County Sheriff’s Office was alerted to a motor vehicle crash with injuries near the intersection of County Road 8 NE and 45th Ave NE. Deputies arriving on the scene found a 2018 Chevrolet Equinox that had veered off the roadway and into the east ditch. The driver, 18-year-old Landrie Miller of Kerkhoven, had struck a deer while traveling northbound on County Road 8. As she attempted to exit the vehicle, Miller was briefly dragged with the vehicle. Miller was transported by Life Link III for treatment of her injuries. The crash remains under investigation.
Assisting the Kandiyohi County Sheriff’s Office were Atwater Ambulance, Kandiyohi Fire Department, Kandiyohi 1st Responders, Kandiyohi County Rescue Squad, CentraCare Ambulance, Life Link III, and the Minnesota State Patrol.
A four-vehicle crash near Willmar on Wednesday morning sent three people to the hospital. The Minnesota State Patrol says the crash happened around 8:00 a.m. on Highway 23.
Authorities say a Chevy Impala driven by 36-year-old Sumani Malimu of Willmar was going west on Highway 23. Meanwhile the other three vehicles, a Buick Envision driven by 43-year-old Rebecca Gregoire of Granite Falls, a Jeep Cherokee driven by 34-year-old Krystal Enevoldsen of Maynard, and a Ford Escape driven by 65-year-old Marlene Phillips of Clara City were all going east.
Malimu pulled out to pass and crashed into Phillips and Enevoldsen while Gregorie went into the ditch. Malimu, Phillips, and Enevoldsen were all taken to CentraCare Willmar with non-life-threatening injuries. Gregorie was not hurt in the crash.
All involved were wearing their seat belts when the crash occurred. Alcohol is not involved, according to the report.
On this day in music, April 9, 1969, folk star Bob Dylan reinvented himself with the release of his ninth studio album, Nashville Skyline. The album was a sonic and stylistic pivot from his earlier work and found Dylan immersing himself in country music. Even his singing voice was unrecognizable, as the artist delivered songs like “Lay Lady Lay” and “Tonight I’ll Be Staying Here with You” in a deeper, softer croon. In 2021, 50-year-old rapper DMX died following a cardiac arrest. Born Earl Simmons, he became a hip-hop MC in 1984 and signed with Def Jam Records in 1996. His 1998 debut, It’s Dark And Hot Is Hell, marked the first of a record-breaking five multi-platinum albums that debuted at No.1 on the Billboard 200. He took his stage name from a DMX drum machine he used to practice his rhymes to, but later said it was an acronym for “Dark Man X.”
