Become a Mentor or Lunch Buddy with LAMP

The Litchfield Area Mentorship Program took advantage of last month’s Mentorship Month observance to get the word out about what it does in the community. An appreciation event was held earlier this month for mentors in the program.
Judy Hulterstrum says they are always looking for more mentors which doesn’t require a big time commitment, and they also have the Lunch Buddies program at Dassel Elementary School and at Lake Ripley Elementary School in Litchfield which only requires an hour or so of time twice a month. She says the lunch buddies eat with their student and also do an activity with them.
Hulterstrum says they are hoping to get the Lunch Buddy program started at ACGC and also at EV-W Elementary School. She says about 30 children in the Litchfield Area Mentorship Program will be tubing this Saturday at Powder Ridge, and the LAMP 4-H club will be meeting on February 24th.
Hulterstrum says mentorship is all about helping youth improve their social skills and develop self-esteem. She says applications for mentors and for youth are available at lampkinship.org and for more information, you may call her at 320-699-1616. The LAMP office is in the southwest corner of Litchfield United Methodist Church at 1000 South Sibley Avenue and Judy is usually there weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to noon.
