Cabin Fire on Diamond Lake

Fire destroyed a cabin on Diamond Lake Monday morning. Atwater Fire Chief Brian Carlson says a neighbor phoned in the blaze on Breezy Point Road, on the north side of Diamond Lake, at 5:21 a.m.

Carlson says when fire firefighters got there flames were coming from the east side of the house, and it later spread to the attic, forcing firefighters to cut a hole in the roof to fight the fire. He says between the fire and water damage, he believes the house is pretty much a total loss. The cause is under investigation by the state fire marshal’s office.

The house is owned by a man from Lake Elmo, and no one was home at the time. Carlson says Atwater was assisted by the Kandiyohi Fire Department, the local coop helped keep the engines fueled, and ambulance crews were at the scene but no one was injured.
