“Chauncey and Whitey the Rooser”

Julianne Johnson – formerly of Grove City – and a long-time former member of the Litchfield Area Writer’s Group – released a children’s book several months ago titled “Chauncey and the Chickens.” Now – there’s a sequel – “Chauncey and Whitey the Rooster. The books, published by WestBow Press, are available on Amazon.

In the latest book, a white bantam rooster named Whitey becomes the bully of the chicken coop, but due to a mishap one day in the coop, he learns a lesson in humility and learns from his fellow chickens that it’s better to always be kinder than necessary.

Johnson’s character, Chauncey, is based on her granddaughter Esme who has a flock of chickens at her house. She says, after a lifetime of living on farms in Minnesota and being around backyard flocks, chickens can have personalities much like humans. Johnson says she’s hoping to schedule a book-signing event sometime this summer in the area before returning to her home in North Carolina.
