Civil War Roundtable
The G.A.R. Hall and Meeker County Museum will host another Civil War Roundtable discussion next week – on Thursday, September 12th – at 1:30 p.m. Historian Stephen Osman will be speaking about General Sibley and his Contraband Teamsters.
Museum Executive Director Danelle Erickson says anyone is welcome to attend the meeting – it’s $3 for non-members. She says Minnesota was the first state to send volunteers to help the Union in the Civil War and several of the troops came from Meeker County.
Erickson says the G.A.R. Hall was the American Legion of its time – a meeting place for veterans right after the Civil War. She says they are trying to form a genealogy group at the museum and there is a survey that anyone interested may take on their Facebook page.
Erickson says the Meeker County Museum has resources to help people who are researching their family history. She says the museum at 308 North Marshall Avenue in Litchfield is open Tuesday through Friday from 10-to-4 and Saturday from noon-to-4 and you can find more information at meekercomuseum.org.
