Election Results
The Litchfield City Council will have the same members as a result of Tuesday’s election. Malinda Larson won the Council Member at Large position with 1,802 votes and her challenger, Carl Minton, received 1,289 votes. There were 11 write-in votes for that seat.
Darlene Kotelnicki has been reelected in Litchfield’s 2nd Ward with 369 votes and her challenger, Ian McGuire, received 345 votes. There were 4 write-in votes for that seat. John Carlson was unopposed in Ward 4 and received 567 votes. There were 6 write-in votes for his seat.
The top 3 candidates elected to the Litchfield School Board were incumbent Alex Carlson with 3,720 votes, Stephanie Danielson with 2,850 and Tim Oster with 2,786. Adam Boerema received 2,694 votes and Mick Spillane received 1,274 votes. There were 65 write-in votes.
In the County Commissioner races, Cheryl Van Ort was elected in District 2 with 2,038 votes. There were 39 write-in votes. She was unopposed and will be filling the seat in January that has been held by Julie Bredeson. Paul Johnson was reelected in District 3 with 2,339 votes. There were 41 write-in votes in that district. Johnson was unopposed. In District 4, incumbent Danny Schiefelbein was defeated by Darren Sombke who received 1,343 votes. Schiefelbein received 1,092 votes and there were 8 write-in votes.
In Minnesota House District 16A, Republican Scott Van Binsbergen was elected with 16,040 votes, defeating DFL candidate Kathy Hegstad who received 6,339 votes.
The totals are unofficial until each board canvasses the votes. Litchfield and Meeker County will be canvassing their votes on November 12th. Election results for other races can be found on the MN Secretary of State’s website at sos.state.mn.us.
