Former Litchfield Teacher Has Written a Book Titled “Traveling Through School”
Former Litchfield teacher Dave Whitchurch has written a book about his teaching experiences titled “Traveling Through School.” The book is $10 and is available in the Litchfield Middle School office.
Whitchurch, who began teaching in Litchfield in 1984 and retired in 2020, spent most of his career in Litchfield teaching 5th grade at Wagner, but spent the final 5 years at Litchfield Middle School. He says many people told him that he should write a book about his experiences so he compiled notes that he’d kept over the years and wrote “Traveling Through School.”
Whitchurch says some of his stories include the time that there was a snow day and one of his students called him to make sure that he knew there was no school; and the time that there was a teacher workshop meeting in the Wagner Media Center and a boy who had been playing outside did not see the crowd of teachers through the windows and peed in front of them.
Whitchurch says some of the best learning experiences are when people share stories with each other. He says he was honored to be able to teach in Litchfield and he’d like to thank all of the students and members of the Litchfield community for sharing their lives with him.
