Grove City Area CARE Program Upcoming Events
Normally this time of the year, the Grove City Area CARE program would be promoting an upcoming soup and sandwich lunch on Super Bowl weekend, but that fundraiser will not be held this year. The CARE board is looking at some different fundraisers in the coming year.
CARE Volunteer Coordinator Rosie Dilley says they have to hold 3 fundraisers a year to satisfy their Dept. of Human Services grant, so they may try a couple of smaller fundraisers to take the place of the annual Souper Bowl Lunch and maybe come up with a plan to revamp the lunch for next year. She says, besides the fundraisers, they rely on private donations, and checks may be mailed to Grove City Area CARE, Post Office Box 192, Grove City, MN 56243.
Dilley says the CARE program hosts Friendship Club the second Thursday of each month, and they have both congregate dining and meals-on-wheels through Lutheran Social Services. She says the foot care program that they’ve developed is very popular and is available in other local communities.
Dilley says they can use more volunteers and you can spend as much time helping as your schedule allows. She says they have some retired volunteers who can devote more time, and working people who are maybe just available to help with their fundraising events.
CARE board member Dennis Brown says he’s been able to help more with the program since he retired and it’s been a good experience. He says his duties have ranged from being a caller for bingo games to being a driver for meals-on-wheels.
Brown says volunteer drivers with the CARE program may run errands or take people to medical appointments, and there are other volunteer opportunities. He says he was honored to have been chosen as the Grove City Area CARE program’s volunteer of the year for 2025.
The CARE program has a couple of events coming up in March – a farm advocate meeting on March 11th at 11 a.m. at the CARE office on South 3rd Street in Grove City, and a senior health expo on March 18th from 9-to-11:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church.
