LHS Hall of Fame Inductee Donald “Pokey” Schreifels
The Litchfield High School Hall of Fame induction ceremony will take place on November 7th at 7 p.m. in the Litchfield High School Commons. Four Litchfield High School graduates will be inducted this year – including Donald “Pokey” Schreifels from the class of 1961.
Schreifels says he wasn’t the best student in high school, but was very involved in sports and could’ve received scholarships to play at various state universities, but his dad wanted him to attend St. John’s University where he had graduated in 1934, so that’s where he went to college. He says he was in the ROTC and served in the Army in Korea during the Vietnam War and got out in 1968.
Schreifels says he worked for General Mills in Chicago and then moved back to Minnesota in 1969 and spent 45 years in the insurance business – with Northwestern Mutual Insurance, at first, and then on his own and was a life-long member of the Million Dollar Roundtable. He says he has great memories of growing up in Litchfield.
Schreifels says he will be back in Litchfield for the Hall of Fame activities on November 7th. He now lives in The Villages, Florida. He says his advice to students is to work hard, be honest and trustworthy – no matter what you do – and develop good habits.
