Litchfield City Council Meeting

The Litchfield City Council has approved of the sale of general obligation bonds with a principal amount of $3,180,000. Northland Securities of Minneapolis had the low true interest rate of 4.0131%. Ehlers Public Finance Advisors received 8 bids for the bond sale.

The Council held a public hearing to consider the repealing and replacing of land usage codes to allow building official – Rum River – to do plumbing inspections in lieu of the State of Minnesota. The Council approved a first reading of an ordinance regarding the inspection issue.

Jesse Turck of 4594 Design gave the Council an update on the downtown façade project. The Council then approved of 4 more certificates of appropriateness from the Heritage Preservation Commission related to the project – at 219, 225, 227 and 237 North Sibley Avenue.

The Council approved of 3 rental rates for the 6 new hangars at the Litchfield Municipal Airport of $190, $200 and $210 per month. City Administrator Dave Czoik says there are 3 styles of hangars and there are 20 people on a waiting list who want to rent hangars.

The Council approved of replacing flag poles with a quote from Coil’s Flags of St. Cloud for $38,350 on a 5-to-1 vote with Bob Powers opposed. Powers had brought up the flagpole issue a while back when he noticed that the City’s flags were not at half-staff during times of national mourning. Powers felt that a more inexpensive option of retrofitting the existing poles should be pursued.

Also last night, the Litchfield City Council heard a reminder from representatives of the Meeker County Historical Society about the need for window replacements at the G.A.R. Hall. Administrator Czoik says that the wheels are in motion for the window replacement request.
