Litchfield Masons Thanks the Community for Their Support
The Litchfield Masons had a fundraising breakfast yesterday at the Litchfield Eagles Club. The event helps to fund the philanthropic work that the Golden Fleece Lodge #89 does in the community.
Jim Ellingson says the Masons give out three $2,000 scholarships each year to Litchfield High School seniors. He says the Masons have a long history in Litchfield and out of the 87 counties in Minnesota, 18 of them are named for Masons, including Meeker County.
Jim Curry says the Mason have been in Litchfield for 154 years and it’s the oldest and largest fraternal organization in the world. He says internationally, 2-to-3-million dollars is donated to worthy causes every day by the Masons, and they promote a lot of the programs at the University of Minnesota Hospital.
Bill Hicks says the Litchfield Masons have owned the building at 242 North Sibley Avenue since 1889 and the lower level has had various tenants over the years including J.C. Penney, Woolworth’s and most recently – the Again & Again Too store. He says they are in the process of restoring the building right now as part of the historic downtown façade grant program.
Hicks says the Litchfield Masons would like to thank the community for all of their support.
