Litchfield Memorial Day Events

Memorial Day events in Litchfield on Monday, May 27th will include a ritual at Calvary Cemetery at 8 a.m. and a parade at 9:15 – with line-up beginning at 9 a.m. on the south side of St. Philip’s School. The parade will travel south on Armstrong Avenue from 3rd to 1st Streets, then west to Holcombe Avenue, then north to 3rd Street, and west to Marshall Avenue where buses will be waiting at Central Park to transport people to Lake Ripley Cemetery for a 10 a.m. program. A Memorial Day program will then air on KLFD at 11 a.m.
Also on Monday, the Sons of the American Legion have a French toast breakfast from 7 a.m. to noon at the American Legion in downtown Litchfield. The cost is $10 for adults, $5 for children 5-to-10, and free for kids under 5.
The annual Meeker County Historical Society Memorial Day Picnic will be held at the Litchfield Opera House on Monday from 11-to-1:30. The cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under. David Stottrup will provide music. The museum at 308 North Marshall Avenue will be open from 11-to-2 on Monday. The picnic will be held at the Opera House at 136 North Marshall Avenue because of the ample space there.
Also this weekend, a memorial service will be held at the Forest City War Memorial Park on Sunday at 2 p.m. Keith Johnson will be speaking and music will be by the Litchfield Area Male Chorus. In case of rain, the event will move to St. Matthew’s Church.
