Litchfield School Board Meeting

The Litchfield School Board heard a presentation last night which was called “Referendum Dos and Don’ts.” The Litchfield School District will have a couple of questions on the November 3rd ballot in hopes of passing an operating levy and a building referendum.

Eryn Wood – Director of Marketing for ISC – spoke to the Board members about their dual role which includes presenting factual information as school board members, but also their right to an opinion as citizens of the School District. She says one of the reasons good proposals fail is because more emphasis is placed on tax increases instead of the benefits of the proposals. An open house will be held on September 21st from 4-to-6 p.m. at the Wagner Education Building for people to get more information about the levy and referendum and there’s also a web site to access information at RaisingDragonsBuildingFutures.org.

The Litchfield School Board approved of a stipulation for their legal counsel to work with NSP on a condemnation petition for a one-acre parcel of land in Forest Prairie Township. The Litchfield School District has owned the land since 1858 for the purpose of building a school house and NSP wants to access the land for a transmission line.

Also last night, the Litchfield School Board approved of the purchase of a combi oven for the Lake Ripley Elementary kitchen from Zepoli for $29,005.38; and approved of an alpine ski cooperative agreement with a group of other school districts for ski club. Annandale hosts the cooperative and Hutchinson would like to join, so the old agreement had to be dissolved and a new one approved.
