Watercade Celebration is Approaching
The 67th annual Litchfield Watercade celebration is approaching – July 6th through the 9th. The big celebration will culminate with the crowning of a new Miss Litchfield on July 9th at 3 p.m. in the Bernie Aaker Auditorium.
Commodore Rosanne Hansen says there are 3 candidates this year and it will be up to the judges whether just one or two or all 3 receive crowns, but last year, all 4 candidates were crowned with a queen and 3 princesses. She says the candidates have been busy selling buttons this summer.
Hansen says some of the button numbers are drawn for cash prizes. She says the Watercade parade will be on July 8th at 6 p.m. and it will begin at 10th Street and Sibley Avenue, then travel south on Sibley to 3rd Street, then east on 3rd to Armstrong Avenue, then back to 10th Street.
Heather Winkelman is on the Royalty Committee which formed last year and she says they restarted a junior royalty program last year for girls just finishing 3rd grade and crowned two girls during the coronation. She says this year’s junior royalty will be crowned at 11 a.m. on July 8th on the Towmaster stage in Central Park and there are 7 candidates and each of them has a sponsor.
Winkelman says there will be more food vendors this year during the Friday night Beach Party on July 7th and during Art in the Park on July 8th. She says the Royalty Committee is looking for sponsors, and any willing sponsors may email: litchfieldwatercaderoyalty@gmail.com. For more Watercade information, go to www.watercade.com.
