Meeker Soil & Water Conservation District Distributing Trees
The Meeker Soil & Water Conservation District will be distributing trees this Friday from 9-to-6 and Saturday from 8:30-to-11 at the Meeker County Fairgrounds. This is the time for people who pre-ordered trees to pick them up; and there will also be extra trees available for anyone who did not pre-order.
District Technician Joe Norman says there are bundles of bare root trees – 25 to a bundle of hardwood trees and shrubs – for $43.75 per bundle or $1.75 per individual tree, and potted evergreens that range from $12 to $24. He says there are over 30 species of trees and shrubs to choose from and one of the main uses for them is establishing shelter belts for wind and snow protection.
Norman says the trees also create great wildlife habitat and also help to protect the soil. He says the success rate is high, but that all depends on how you care for them as they require watering which has especially been an issue the past few years with the drought conditions.
Norman says there will also be some food plot seeds available on a first-come, first-serve basis, and if you have any question, go to meekerswcd.com or call him at 320-535-3078. He says they also have pollinator plot seed and plugs, but the deadline to order those is Friday.
