One-Vehicle Crash
On Sunday afternoon at 3:34, the Renville County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 report of a one-vehicle crash involving a pickup truck near the intersection of Renville County Road 22 and 850th Avenue, about five miles northeast of Hector in Hector Township. A passenger in the pickup was killed.
Upon arrival at the crash scene, emergency responders discovered a 1997 Ford F250 resting on its top at the bottom of a creek bank. The vehicle was not in the water. The driver and passenger of the vehicle were both trapped inside. Both occupants were extricated by emergency responders and emergency medical care was administered.
The driver, 40-year-old Nikolaus Beglau of Hector, was flown by a Mayo Clinic helicopter to Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis with unknown injuries. The passenger, 36-year-old Katie Dupre of Hector, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The preliminary investigation revealed that Beglau’s vehicle was traveling northbound on Renville County Road 22 between 840th Avenue and 850th Avenue. The vehicle crossed the opposing lane and entered the ditch on the opposite side of the road. The vehicle then launched off a creek embankment, became air-borne, and landed on its hood and cab at the bottom of the creek bank on the opposite side of the creek.
Agencies assisting at the scene included the Hector Fire Department, Buffalo Lake Fire Department, Hector Ambulance Service, Buffalo Lake Ambulance Service, Alina Health EMS, Mayo Clinic Helicopter, North Air Care, Hector Police Department, Buffalo Lake Police Department, and Minnesota State Patrol. The Renville County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation.
