Several events are coming up next month in the Area Faith Community which encompasses the parishes of St. Philip’s in Litchfield, St. John’s in Darwin, the Church of St. Anthony in Watkins and the Church of Our Lady in Manannah. The first event will be the Bazaar and Car Show at St. Philip’s Catholic Church in Litchfield on September 7th from 9-to-1.
Monica Schreiber says the Litchfield Eagles Club will partner with St. Philip’s Church again this year with beverages for the Bazaar; Glen Everhart will return to provide musical entertainment; and the 20th annual car show will take place. She says people may enter their car or get more information by calling Ashley Huhn at 701-238-1975.
Schreiber says there will be all kinds of food at the St. Philip’s Bazaar for breakfast and lunch including Mexican food, the Knights of Columbus with hamburgers and chicken, and dessert booths with donuts, pie, ice cream, root beer floats, and popcorn; and a farmer’s market, games and more.
Brenda Grates says the 2nd annual bean bag tournament will be held at 10:30 a.m. on September 7th during the St. Philip’s Bazaar, with check-in at 10:15. She says it’s $30 per team and if you don’t have a partner, you can sign up for $15 and she’ll match you with someone.
Grates says there will also be a raffle and $10 tickets are available at St. Philip’s Church or from any parish member. She says the grand prize is $2,000 with 2nd prize of $1,000, 3rd prize of $500, 4th prize of $250, 5th through 9th prizes of $100 each and 10th through 19th prizes of $75 each.
Also in September, the Church of St. Anthony has its Fall Festival from 10-to-5 with an outdoor mass, music, food, games, a cash raffle drawing and more. The Pork Chop Supper at the Church of Our Lady will be held on September 28th from 4-to-7 p.m. and that also includes a raffle. For more information on any of the Area Faith Community events, call St. Philip’s Church at 693-3313.
The Litchfield City Council spent quite a bit of time last night discussing matters related to the new Litchfield Area Recreation Center. A grand opening for the new facility has been scheduled for the afternoon of September 7th.
The event will include tours for the public, a ribbon-cutting ceremony and refreshments. The Council approved of rental rates for the new center last night, and also had a lengthy discussion about an agreement with youth hockey operating the concession stand. A motion was approved to have youth hockey operate the stand for the first year – without collecting 10% of the profits as originally proposed – and then reevaluate the agreement after one year.
The Litchfield City Council approved of plans for the sewer separation project and authorized the city engineer to seek bids for the project; and authorized the administration to complete a full wastewater rate study. A transmission project agreement was also approved last night with SMMPA and Great River Energy. The Council approved of a resolution accepting a priority list for community projects.
The Council heard a presentation by Beverly Diederich regarding improvements needed to pickle ball facilities at South Park and possible fundraising that could be done by pickle ball enthusiasts to help with costs.
Also last night, the Litchfield City Council approved of certificates of appropriateness from the Heritage Preservation Commission for Kaleb Lehmann at 19 East Depot Street for replacement of an awning; for the Greater Litchfield Opera House Association for replacement of plywood around the north door at 136 North Marshall Avenue; and for CBTC, LLC at 217 North Sibley Avenue for a new sign and lighting. The Council also approved of applying for a CLG grant to pay for expenses for two and possibly 3 people to attend the annual preservation conference.
National Night Out events are scheduled for Tuesday evening all over Meeker County – and all over the nation, and it’s a great way to meet your neighbors, along with local law enforcement personnel and first responders, and to enjoy some free food and family-friendly activities. One of the events during the Litchfield observance of National Night Out will be a car seat clinic.
Meeker County Public Health nurse Elaina Larson says they try to hold clinics a couple of times a year to help make sure that people are installing car seats correctly and to get the public informed on any new laws related to car seats. She says they have technicians who can inspect the placement of the car seat in your vehicle.
Larson says if anyone has questions at any time about car seats, they may call the Meeker County Health & Human Services office and someone can help them. She says the clinic on Tuesday evening will be in the driveway at Litchfield Christian Church on Marshall Avenue.
Robbie Brown says the event in Litchfield’s Central Park tomorrow evening from 5-to-7:30 will also include free hot dogs, chips and water from First Lutheran Church, free root beer floats from Litchfield United Methodist Church, music by the Palomino Brothers, Vibrant Broadband donating free popcorn from the Litchfield Area Community Foundation popcorn stand, activities sponsored by the Litchfield Christian Church, Paul White of Thrivent Financial and Cub Scout Pack 353, informational booths with Project Harmony and Foster Adopt Minnesota, and the local law enforcement, Litchfield Fire Dept. and Litchfield Rescue Squad will be there. She says they’re hoping the weather cooperates tomorrow evening.
Brown says if there were any weather cancellations, they would be announced on KLFD and posted on the Litchfield National Night Out Facebook page. She says you should bring a blanket or a lawn chair.
Other National Night Out events Tuesday evening will be held at the Cosmos City Park from 5-to-7; in Grove City’s Windmill Park from 5-to-7; at the Dassel Covenant Church from 5:30-to-7:30; and in McCarthy Park in Watkins from 5-to-7. For more details go to LitchfieldNNO on Facebook.
