The St. Philip’s Church Bazaar and Car Show is coming up at the church on East 5th Street in Litchfield on September 8th from 9-to-1. It will include mass, food, drinks, music, a cash raffle drawing and all kinds of fun activities.
Monica Schreiber says the Bazaar is starting earlier this year and they are excited to have the Litchfield Eagles Club staff there this year to serve a variety of beverages. She says there will be a Mexican food stand, Knights of Columbus hamburger and chicken stand, popcorn, root beer, and a dessert booth, and music by Glen Everhart.
Schreiber says there will be a bean bag tournament during the St. Philip’s Church Bazaar and participants need to register with Brenda by September 6th – call 693-3313. She says there will also be a cash raffle drawing with a top prize of $2,000 and tickets are available at the church.
Ashley Huhn is coordinating the car show during the St. Philip’s Bazaar and this is the 19th year of the car show. He says they usually have about 100 cars and there is some judging.

The Litchfield City Council held a public hearing last night regarding the annexation of city-owned property in Litchfield Township. Following the hearing, the Council approved of the first reading of an ordinance to annex the property.
The Council heard a presentation by members of the Light Up Litchfield Committee which is looking for a donation from the City to keep going with its holiday light project in Central Park. After a lengthy discussion, the Council agreed to authorize a project for lighting the fountain and the bicycle-shaped bike racks in Central Park.
The Council approved of a couple of items from the Heritage Preservation Commission including a certificate of appropriateness application for the Meeker Area Food Shelf at 120 North Sibley Avenue for a new sign, and a certificate of appropriateness for Air Pro for a new door and windows and signage at 229 North Sibley Avenue.
The Council received an update on the Litchfield Area Recreation Center project from Collin Rehbein of ICS and approved of an asbestos removal project at the Civic Arena where the facility is being annexed; and approved of allowing the City Administrator to approve of change orders for the project under $50,000 and for the Committee of between $50,000 and $100,000, but anything larger would need to be brought to the Council for approval and any change orders would need to be reported to the Council.
Paul Saffert from Bolton & Menk spoke to the Litchfield City Council last night about the needed improvements at the wastewater treatment plant which will cost just shy of $100-million and will include participation from First District Association. The Council accepted a plan presented by Saffert and the design phase will begin next, and the pursuit of funding options.
Also last night, the Litchfield City Council approved of a quote for repairs that will be done to the Litchfield Public Library building; and approved of bids for electric meters and water meters.
On Saturday afternoon at 4:31, the Stearns County Emergency Communications Center received a call of a single vehicle which left the roadway and struck a power pole on County Road 10 near Pioneer View Road in Albany Township. Upon arrival, deputies located a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado driven by 48-year-old Jamie John Bischof of Eden Valley.
Bischof said he was reaching for an item in the vehicle prior to leaving the roadway. The vehicle left County Road 10, hit the approach of Pioneer View Road, then struck the power pole before coming to a stop in an open field on the east side of County Road 10. Bischof was treated by Melrose Ambulance and Mayo Ambulance before being transported by North Memorial Air Care for advanced medical care.
Xcel Energy was called to replace the badly damaged pole which left power lines dangerously low to the ground on County Road 10 and Pioneer View Road. The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene as well as the Albany Police Department, Albany Fire Department, Melrose Ambulance, Mayo Ambulance, and North Memorial Air.
