Preinatal Mental Health
A support group is forming to help with perinatal mental health issues. A 5-week course will be offered at Open Sole Yoga in downtown Litchfield on Thursday mornings, beginning July 13th.
Kateri Korman says mothers do not get a lot of time to plan for raising a child – 9-months at the most, and it is a life-changing event – and it’s not always “lollipops and rainbows.” She says they will cover several topics during the 5-week session Thursdays from 9-to-11 a.m. and it’s meant for women in their 3rd trimester of pregnancy up through the post-partum period.
Korman says they won’t have child care available at Open Sole Yoga during the sessions, but mothers are welcome to bring their infants. She says they want it to be a safe space to have conversations about perinatal mental health.
Kristle Chase says the cost for the 5-week course is $30 and they’ll be talking about some tough issues. She says she had some mental health issues after the birth of her third baby and when she sought help, she was told that the closest source of help was in Alexandria.
Chase says they are also looking at forming a non-profit organization called Connections to help fund perinatal mental health initiatives to help with expenses that are often not covered by insurance. She says if anyone wants to sign up for the 5-week course or for more information, go to truecompasscounseling.org, opensoleyoga.com, or call Amy at 320-221-9897.
