Standoff in Olivia Leads to an Arrest

On Wednesday afternoon at 12:42 p.m., the Renville County Sheriff’s Dispatch received a 911 call from a 22-year-old man reporting that he had been chased by a 26-year-old man armed with a knife. The suspect subsequently retreated into a residence located in the 600 block of East Maple Avenue, where he was believed to be alone.
In response to the unfolding situation, multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Olivia
Police Department, the Renville County Sheriff’s Office, the Brown Lyon Redwood Renville
Emergency Response Team, the Minnesota State Patrol, and the Olivia Ambulance
Service, mobilized to ensure public safety and bring the incident to a peaceful resolution.
Negotiators were deployed to engage with the suspect, and after strategic communication,
he exited the residence and was taken into custody without further incident at approximately
3:30 p.m. The investigation is on-going.
