Rep Scott Van Binsbergen Running for Reelection
State Representative Scott Van Binsbergen has announced that he’s running for reelection in November. He says he wants to continue fighting for rural principles and continue pushing back against policies that harm communities in Greater Minnesota.
The Montevideo Republican represents House District 16A after gaining more than 71-percent of the vote in a landslide 2024 victory. In his first term, Van Binsbergen said he has focused on bringing common sense and stability back to the legislature.
Van Binsbergen says his mission is to put our state back on a sustainable path after Twin Cities liberals spent the $18 billion surplus, increased state spending by nearly 40 percent, and raised taxes by $10 billion when they had unchecked power at the Capitol. He says there is also a great deal of work that needs to be done to tackle all the fraud that has gripped our state. Fraud in state government doesn’t just happen. Someone allowed it to happen, and that must be stopped. He says anyone who turned a blind eye to these crimes or was complicit in any way must be held accountable, and he will be investigating these matters in full detail during this session.
Van Binsbergen, a lifelong Montevideo resident, said he has sought to serve as a strong and consistent voice for District 16A residents during his first term. He says the people of rural Minnesota are among the hardest working, most resourceful and resilient in the nation, and they deserve a representative who will fight for them every day in St. Paul. He says he’s running for re-election to continue making sure our voices are heard.
Van Binsbergen is currently president of Van Binsbergen & Associates, which employs nearly 150 people across five states, and is a past recipient of the SW Minnesota Entrepreneur of the Year award. He and his wife, Clarissa, have been married for 30 years and have three children.
