Teen Academies Program for Young People

The Meeker County Sheriff’s Office is offering Teen Academies for young people who want to learn more about the law enforcement profession. It’s free for residents of Meeker County who are between the ages of 13 and 18 or who attend one of the schools in Meeker County.
Sheriff Brian Cruze says the first academy begins on Monday and it’s for 3 days from 9 a.m. to noon, and they will learn about being a deputy. He says there’s another Teen Academy July 28th through the 30th in which they will learn about detective duties such as crime scene investigation and evidence collection, along with a mock court trial.
Sheriff Cruze says they offered Teen Academies several years ago, but then it fizzled out during COVID, but they’re back again this summer. He says it’s just a good way for kids to learn about law enforcement and the future career possibilities in the profession.
Sheriff Cruze says at least a 2-year degree is required for peace officers and deputies, but they have all kinds of positions in his department and some of the careers can begin right out of high school. He says to get signed up for one of the Teen Academies, call 693-5400 or look for more information on the Meeker County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page.
