The Beno Blue Line Club has its 14th annual youth hockey fundraising golf tournament on August 24th at the Litchfield Golf Course. The tournament will be followed by a silent auction.
Jeff Woods says many people have supported youth hockey in the community over the years and it’s not cheap for the families whose children are involved in hockey. He says proceeds from the golf tournament will be used in numerous ways.
Woods says, besides helping with some of the equipment costs, the Beno Blue Line Club helps with costs related to participating in the state tournament and much more. He says they have many sponsors who help make the golf tournament possible.
Woods says if you would like to participate in the golf tournament, you can get registration information by calling him at KLFD or contact Chuck DeWolf at chuckdewolf@yahoo.com. He says the cost per person for the 4-person scramble is $100 – which includes a golf cart – and it’s filling up quickly. The silent auction will include all kinds of items including a Gordy Howe autographed portrait.
National Night Out will be celebrated tomorrow evening and a community event is planned in Litchfield’s Central Park Tuesday from 5-to-7:30 p.m. Events are also scheduled for other communities around Meeker County tomorrow night.
Robbie Brown says block party locations will include McCarthy Park in Watkins, Windmill Park in Grove City, the Cosmos city park and Spring Lake Park in Dassel. She says you can do a Facebook search to find specific times for each community. She says the event in Litchfield will include entertainment, food, games and more.
Brown says one of the main purposes of National Night Out is to get to know your neighbors as well as law enforcement officers and fire and rescue personnel. She says for more details, go to workingasonelitchmn.com.
The 38th annual New London to New Brighton Antique Car Run is coming up on Saturday, August 10th, with a stop at Trinity Lutheran Church in Grove City at 8 a.m. and at Central Park in Litchfield at 9 a.m. There will be a parade of the cars in New London on Friday, August 9th at 5 p.m.
Forty-three cars are registered for this year’s event and the cars must not be newer than 1912. Organizers have changed the last half of the route in order to avoid the traffic of Minneapolis and its suburbs with a stop in Anoka. The cars will end up at Long Lake Park in New Brighton.
Prior to the big event on Saturday, the drivers will attend events in Paynesville on Wednesday, Willmar on Thursday and around Green Lake on Friday. The cars will be parading through New London at 5 o’clock Friday afternoon, followed by a meal at the New London American Legion.
Stops on Saturday will include Grove City at 8 a.m. and Litchfield around 9 a.m., followed by a stop in Kingston from 10 a.m. to noon in the Community Center for BBQs, sweet corn and root beer floats. For more details, go to antiquecarrun.org.
The Meeker County Fair wrapped up its 4-day run yesterday. The Fair Frenzy raffle drawing was held on Sunday, and James Mickelson won the top prize of $5,000.
The $2,500 prize went to Michael Schneider. The winners of $1,000 each were Drew Homacher and Randy Salzl. Four people won $500 each and they were Rob Roelike, Porter Kuechle, Owen Carlson and Josh Carlson. The winners of $250 each included Brandon Fischer, Callie Bremseth, Sara Mohr and Ann Jensen.
