October Son will be performing Thursday evening (June 15) in Litchfield’s Central Park from 6-to-8 p.m. for Thriving Thursday. The Meeker County American Dairy Association will serve ice cream cones.
Steve Michaud has been a part of October Son for about 14 years. He says he first started playing guitar when his dad, Bob Greenhow, taught him. He was about 13-years-old at the time, and then when he was about 16, Bob’ band – the Crow River Ramblers – needed a singer, so Steve joined the band, and that group eventually evolved into a band called Beats Workin’.
Michaud says he played in a few other bands over the years, and eventually ended up in the band October Son which turned into a trio a couple years ago and they mostly play semi-unplugged easy listening classic rock and some country music. He says they do private parties, weddings, community events, and often play on outdoor patios at clubs during the summer months and at wineries.
The Litchfield Area Mentorship Program will be in area parades, at the Meeker County Fair and at the Songs of Summer Festival this summer. Members of the program will be in Litchfield’s Central Park on June 22nd serving a meal during Thriving Thursdays.
Jenna Haynie says Shady’s donated buns for the pork sandwiches that they’ll be serving and Subway donated cookies for the June 22nd meal in Central Park. She says they have youth on a waiting list, so more mentors are needed to give them a little extra support in their lives.
Haynie says it’s an easy process to apply to be a mentor – just go to lampkinship.org. She says she contacts the applicants, does a home interview and a background check, and then matches the mentor to a young person with common interests. June is Dairy Month and members of the Meeker County American Dairy Association have been busy promoting their products. The public is welcome to Dinner on the Dairy tomorrow night – Friday, June 16th – from 5-to-8 p.m. at Ru-Be Dairy – south of Grove City.
Elizabeth Krienke is the herdman for Ru-Be Dairy. She says they will be serving grilled cheese sandwiches, chips, milk and cookies, and there will be self-guided tours of the farm.
Junior Meeker County Dairy Princess Paige Frenchick says she and her fellow princesses and ambassadors have been busy this month talking to children about the dairy industry and serving ice cream at various community events. She says there will be kids activities during Dinner on the Dairy on June 16th – from 5-to-8 p.m. at Ru-Be Dairy – south of Grove City.
