The Litchfield High School Drama Department presents “Footloose” October 31st, and November 1st and 2nd at 7 p.m. and on November 3rd at 2 p.m. at the Bernie Aaker Auditorium. Tickets are on sale at the Litchfield High School office, online, and will be sold at the door.
William Pennertz says it’s a musical, so people may recognize some of the songs from the Kevin Bacon movie in the 1980s. He says he’s in the lead role of Ren McCormick.
Pennertz says even though dancing is illegal in the small town where “Footloose” takes place, there is a lot of choreography in the production. He says he’s been in every fall musical since he’s been in high school and is a long-time participant in Litchfield Community Theatre productions.
Zariah Haynie says she’s also been in all of the Litchfield High School fall musicals since she’s been in high school. She says her character, Ariel Moore, is the daughter of the town’s preacher.
There are about two dozen cast members in “Footloose” along with several crew members.
The Litchfield City Council received an update last night regarding the wastewater issues from Paul Saffert of Bolton & Menk. He says First District Association is moving forward with plans for a pretreatment plant.
Saffert says the wastewater improvements are expected to cost up to $50-million, and First District’s portion is at least half that amount. The Council approved of the significant industrial user agreement and a lease agreement related to the wastewater project. Later in the meeting, the Council approved of a site plan for First District to build its pretreatment plant behind the city’s existing wastewater facility.
The Council approved of bids of $108,400 for fire suppression and $743,718 for electrical for the Litchfield Area Recreation Center project, and rejected a mechanical bid package. A conditional use permit, variance and lot split request was approved for Dennis Rutledge at 702 West 5th Street. The first reading of an ordinance for the draft comprehensive plan was approved. Proposed amendments to the zoning ordinance – mainly dealing with signs – was approved.
The Council appointed Lori Lehar as the new liquor store manager, and approved of Tanner Fester as a lineman. The Council approved of having the administration develop a mailbox policy to make sure that the hundreds of new mailboxes that have been installed in town over the summer months will be able to survive snow removal this winter. The Litchfield City Council also approved of having David Felt install lights on one of the trees in Central Park for the holiday season for $4,680.
A free Trunk or Treat event is coming up on Sunday, October 27th, in the parking lot between the Meeker County Fairgrounds and Litchfield High School on East 10th Street from 3-to-5 p.m. Bring a non-perishable item for the Food Shelf.
Robbie Brown says several businesses, churches and service clubs will have vehicles there with treats to hand out to children. She says more than 30 of them registered this year to participate and people attending the event are asked to bring items for the Meeker Area Food Shelf.
Brown says besides candy, children are likely to receive trinkets and some healthy items too. She says there are several churches in the area that will have trunk or treat events on Halloween – including the Litchfield Christian Church and Litchfield United Methodist Church.
Janaye Prieve says the Trunk or Treat event in Litchfield on Sunday will likely bring a lot of people into Litchfield which is one of the goals of the Litchfield Visitors Bureau. She says you could make it a day to visit Litchfield and visit the Pumpkin Patch Festival at the Nelson Farm as Sunday is the last day that it will be open for the season.
Prieve says there is a haunted pub crawl in Watkins on Saturday. She says there is always plenty to do in the Litchfield area, and they are looking forward to the Light up Litchfield event on November 30th.
Prieve says the Litchfield Downtown Council is promoting National Frankenstein Friday this Friday, October 25th, from 3-to-5 p.m. as kids can get a map at the Fire Hall and then look for participating businesses with a ghost in their window for trick or treating, followed by adult trick or treating events at participating businesses from 6-to-9 p.m. Friday.
