In 1997, guitarist Randy California of Spirit disappeared after being caught in a current off the coast of Hawaii while trying to save his 12-year-old son. The boy survived but California drowned. He was 45.
In 2019, musician Daryl Dragon of The Captain and Tennille died of renal failure in Prescott, Arizona. He was 76.

The Meeker County Family Services Center has been going through a remodeling project for the past several months and the building is now known as the Meeker County Government Center. New signage was installed last week.
County Administrator Andrew Letson says the Court House is still in the midst of remodeling and it will be known as the Justice Center – with court-related services, the County Attorney’s office and law enforcement center offices. He says the Government Center name reflects what kinds of services are available to the public there.
Letson says the county has developed a new parking lot at the corner of Armstrong Avenue and 1st Street in Litchfield which is mainly used by staff, but there is also parking available near the southeast corner of the Government Center which had been a playground area used by Head Start.

In 1984, drummer Rick Allen of Def Leppard lost his left arm in a car crash near his home in England.
In 1985, singer Rick Nelson was killed when fire broke out aboard a private plane that was taking him to a New Year’s Eve performance in Dallas. His fiancée and five other people were also killed. Nelson was 45.
In 1989, game show host Pat Sajak married former model Lesly Brown in Annapolis, Maryland.
In 1991, Gilbert O’Sullivan won his lawsuit against rapper Biz Markie for using a sample of his song “Alone Again (Naturally)” for Markie’s song “Alone Again.” The case changed the rules of sampling by requiring that all samples be cleared before releasing them on another record.
In 2000, Black Crowes singer Chris Robinson married actor Kate Hudson in Aspen, Colorado. They divorced in 2007.
In 2004, singer Natalie Imbruglia married Silverchair singer Daniel Johns at a resort in Australia. They divorced in 2008.
Also in 2004, Rush guitarist Alex Lifeson was arrested after he and his son got into a fight with police during a New Year’s Eve celebration in Naples, Florida.
In 2005, Dick Clark returned to his “New Year’s Rockin’ Eve” telecast after missing the previous year because he had had a stroke. He was hoarse and sometimes hard to understand, but he said he “wouldn’t have missed this for the world.”
In 2015, singer Natalie Cole died of heart failure in Los Angeles at the age of 65.
