G.A.R. Hall Civil War Roundtable
Members of the Meeker County Historical Society had a booth at the Meeker County Fair in which people could try to guess the identity of certain historical artifacts. G.A.R. Hall and Meeker County Museum Executive Director Danelle Erickson says it was a good way to get people interested in history and to consider visiting the museum.
Erickson says the cars involved in tomorrow’s New London to New Brighton Antique Car Run will be parking on North Marshall Avenue so the museum will be open in case any of those participants want to stop in and check out the museum during their stop, which begins at 8:30 a.m. She says local Civil War reenactor Bruce Nelson will be speaking during the Civil War Roundtable which is coming up at the G.A.R. Hall on August 14th at 1:30 p.m.
Erickson says they recently received a grant from the Minnesota Historical Society Legacy Fund to expand the microfilm library at the Meeker County Museum to include newspapers from Grove City, Eden Valley and Watkins. She says the museum at 308 North Marshall Avenue is open Tuesdays through Fridays from 10-to-4 and Saturdays from noon-to-4. For more information, go to meekercomuseum.org.
