A ground-breaking ceremony will be held at the Litchfield Area Recreation Center site next to the Litchfield Civic Arena on Thursday morning at 10 o’clock with City and School District officials present. The Litchfield City Council approved of bid package #3 for the facility on Monday evening.
Mayor Ron Dingmann says bids of $108,400 for fire suppression and $743,718 for electrical were both under budget, but a bid for mechanical was extremely high so it was rejected and will be rebid. He says the Council set a couple of public hearing for November 18th – one to address the additional $10,000 amended to the purchase price for the Litchfield Golf Clubhouse, and another regarding the cannabis sale ordinance.
Dingmann says the Council also hired a new liquor store manager, Lori Lehar, who will take over for Angela Decker who is retiring at year’s end; and lineman Tanner Fester; and approved of lighting a maple tree in Central Park this holiday season for $4,680. He says the Council also approved of having the staff develop a policy regarding the stability of mailboxes as the winter snow removal season approaches.
Dingmann says they will educating the public about the mailbox policy as it’s put together. He says the Council approved of some items Monday evening related to the wastewater plant including a significant industrial user agreement, a lease agreement and a site plan for First District Association as it will install a pretreatment plant next to the City’s wastewater plant. The upcoming wastewater improvement project is estimated to cost between $45-50-million, with First District’s share estimated at $25-30-million.
