A free Trunk or Treat event is coming up on Sunday, October 27th, in the parking lot between the Meeker County Fairgrounds and Litchfield High School on East 10th Street from 3-to-5 p.m. Bring a non-perishable item for the Food Shelf.
Robbie Brown says several businesses, churches and service clubs will have vehicles there with treats to hand out to children. She says more than 30 of them registered this year to participate and people attending the event are asked to bring items for the Meeker Area Food Shelf.
Brown says besides candy, children are likely to receive trinkets and some healthy items too. She says there are several churches in the area that will have trunk or treat events on Halloween – including the Litchfield Christian Church and Litchfield United Methodist Church.
Janaye Prieve says the Trunk or Treat event in Litchfield on Sunday will likely bring a lot of people into Litchfield which is one of the goals of the Litchfield Visitors Bureau. She says you could make it a day to visit Litchfield and visit the Pumpkin Patch Festival at the Nelson Farm as Sunday is the last day that it will be open for the season.
Prieve says there is a haunted pub crawl in Watkins on Saturday. She says there is always plenty to do in the Litchfield area, and they are looking forward to the Light up Litchfield event on November 30th.
Prieve says the Litchfield Downtown Council is promoting National Frankenstein Friday this Friday, October 25th, from 3-to-5 p.m. as kids can get a map at the Fire Hall and then look for participating businesses with a ghost in their window for trick or treating, followed by adult trick or treating events at participating businesses from 6-to-9 p.m. Friday. Two men were hurt Friday morning when scaffolding fell inside a large storage tank at the Southern Minnesota Beet Sugar Cooperative plant in Renville. The Renville County Sheriff’s Department says at approximately 6:34 a.m. Friday they got a call regarding two individuals that had fallen from scaffolding inside a storage tank at the Co-op, 2 miles northeast of Renville.
The preliminary investigation showed two individuals, identified as 22-year-old Chance Anderson from Adams, and 30-year-old Tedrick Coleman from Baton Rouge, Louisiana were working while on top of the scaffolding when coworkers were attempting to reposition the scaffolding when it tipped over, causing the two males to fall approximately 35-40 feet.
Both victims were removed from the storage tank and received medical care by rescue crews on scene. Tedrick was flown from the scene by LifeLink III to St. Cloud Hospital with suspected serious injuries. Anderson was transported by Olivia Ambulance to the Olivia Airport where LifeLink III then flew him to St. Cloud Hospital. Anderson also has suspected serious injuries.

The Litchfield Lions Club has a Pancake/French Toast Breakfast on Sunday at the Litchfield Eagles Club from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The cost is $10 for adults, $5 for students, and free for children under 5, with a maximum family charge of $40.
Lions member Hal Wenaas says it’s become a tradition for the Lions to have this breakfast on the third Sunday of October each year. He says the Lions will use the proceeds for eyeglasses for students and also for the Breakfast of Champions program at the school.
Wenaas says the Lions International recently gave $2.5-million for hurricane relief and the Litchfield Club sent a check for $500. He says he would like to thank Thrivent Action Teams, Forsman Farms for the eggs, Family Fare for the groceries, the Eagles Club, and Janaye at the Chamber for putting up posters – all of which will help to make this Sunday’s breakfast possible. The Litchfield Lions Club meets twice a month at Prospects and new members are welcome.
