The Octoberfest fundraising event for Grove City Area CARE will be on Sunday, October 13th from 4-to-6:30 p.m. in the South Grove Square gym. There will be a roast pork and turkey dinner.
CARE Volunteer Coordinator Rosie Dilley says the cost for the dinner is $12 for adults and $5 for children 10 and under. She says there’s also a silent auction, crafts, farmers market, drawings for $50 gift cards to Grove City businesses and Grandma’s cookie walk.
Dilley says the CARE program applies for funds from the Dept. of Human Services, but they also rely on donations and they raise money with events like Sunday’s Octoberfest to keep the program operating. She says they have all kinds of activities for local seniors and they partner with other organizations to help keep the elderly living in their own homes as long as possible.
Dilley says they have volunteers who provide rides, run errands and deliver meals-on-wheels for seniors in the Grove City area. She says people attending Sunday’s dinner should enter the South Grove Gym on the west side of the old school building on 3rd Street in Grove City.
Steve Schmitt says he joined the Grove City Area CARE board 6 years ago as a county commissioner for the Grove City area. He says from a social service viewpoint, the county views the Grove City Area CARE program as a great asset as it cuts down on social service programs that would be needed by those who benefit from Grove City Area CARE.
Tickets in advance for Sunday’s dinner in Grove City are available at the CARE office or at Grove Bank, but you can purchase them at the door.
The Litchfield City Council has approved of an amendment agreement for the wastewater discharge permit. City Administrator Dave Czoik says the wastewater project is headed in a good direction.
Czoik says major improvements to the wastewater plant – up to $50-million – are needed in the future, with the City and First District Association partnering on the project. He says Paul Saffert from Bolton & Menk will attend the next Council meeting with more details.
The Council approved of a performance evaluation summary last night for Administrator Czoik. Mayor Ron Dingmann says Czoik was ranked in three areas – communication, administration and leadership and received an average score of 3.73 on a 1-to-5 scale with the number-5 being outstanding.
The Council approved of a certificate of appropriateness application for Theresa Gubrud for improvements to the building at 18 East 2nd Street. The Council also approved of extending the grant deadline for this property to April as properties in the historic downtown district can apply for $8,000 matching grants through this December.
The Litchfield City Council approved of having the administration seek quotes from Dan Felt for lighting one or two trees in Litchfield’s Central Park this upcoming holiday season. Councilman Eric Mathwig also brought up concerns about the placing of political signs and passed out information about where signs can be legally placed.
Crystal Hills Assembly of God Church near Paynesville will be packing shoeboxes again this month for Operation Christmas Child. Anyone is welcome to help pack the boxes on October 23rd – beginning at 5:30 p.m.
Pastor Dan Courtney says the evening will begin with pizza and a message from a missionary, and then they are hoping to pack 300 boxes with items that will go to children all over the world. He says this mission was started by Franklin Graham’s Samaritan’s Purse organization.
Pastor Courtney says they found out that their boxes last year went to Chile and many of the children who receive these boxes have never had a toothbrush, pencil, toy or other item that they find in their box at Christmas time. He says they also collect some money which helps with shipping costs and for Gospel materials that are included in each box.
Pastor Dan says they have drop off sites around Paynesville in case anyone wants to drop off items to be packed in the boxes or cash including: Fleet Supply, Tractor Supply, Elizabeth Rose Salon, Firehouse Coffee, the pharmacy, Hilltop and Crystal Hills Church. He says you can find more information about Operation Christmas Child at crystalhillag.org or samaritanspurse.org. Crystal Hills is near the intersection of Highways 55 and 4 – about 5-miles east of Paynesville.
