State Representative Scott Van Binsbergen Reelected to Second Term

State Representative Scott Van Binsbergen was reelected to a second term, representing District 16A in the Minnesota House of Representatives. The Montevideo Republican received 69% of the vote in Tuesday’s election.

Van Binsbergen says he enjoyed campaigning – meeting with people and discussing issues – and now he’s excited to go back to St. Paul and serve another 2 years. He says he served on the Commerce, Health and Judicial Committees during his first term and he’s not sure which committees he will be appointed to for the next biennium.

Van Binsbergen says his party will be in the minority this time as the DFL party now has a trifecta – controlling the House, Senate and governor’s office. He says he’s hoping that Amy Klobuchar will follow through on the priorities that she mentioned in her campaign, but he’s concerned about the spending that could occur with the DFL in control.

Van Binsbergen says addressing the fraud issue is one of his top priorities and with the new Inspector General’s office, he’s hoping that the fraudsters will be prosecuted by the Attorney General and that the stolen funds can be recovered. He says people expect that their tax dollars will be used for their intended purpose.

Van Binsbergen says if anyone has concerns, they are welcome to call his office at 651-296-4344 or email him at rep.scott.vanbinsbergen@house.mn.gov.
