The 42nd annual Forest City Stockade Rendezvous will be held on Saturday and Sunday from 10-to-5 each day. Admission is $5 for adults and free for children 12 and under.
Bob Hermann says many of the usual displays will be there. He says some of the newer ones in recent years have included the wagon collection in the Nelson Barn, violin-making in the woodwright shop, and Larry Levin’s Native American artifacts display.
Hermann says there will be a birch bark canoe-building demonstration on Sunday only, and people can purchase the latest Willis Chase print “Blacksmith at Work.” He says there’s a new icebox in the Apple Tree Inn, there will be live music, horse-drawn wagon rides, the fur trade encampment on the east side of the Stockade, and lots of great food such as buffalo sandwiches, sweet corn, homemade ice cream, buffalo jerky, fry bread and pickled eggs.
Richard Dollerschell says he’s been busy mowing the grounds just about every week due to the abundant rainfall this summer. He says the garden has also been growing well, and this year he grew 4 tobacco plants and a chicory plant which the pioneers used for making coffee.
Dollerschell encourages people to attend the Stockade Rendezvous as it’s a fun, family event.
