The Forest City Threshers Pork Chop Dinner is coming up this Sunday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Threshers Dining Hall. The menu includes grilled pork chops, au gratin potatoes, beans, coleslaw, dinner rolls and strawberry shortcake.
Butch Schulte says they are raising funds to make improvements to the dining hall such as a new coat of paint inside and improvements to the flooring in the kitchen and restrooms. He says they are going to have Craig Kimmerle play the piano during the dinner.
Schulte says Fieldgate is donating milk and butter for Sunday’s dinner and Ag Country Farm Credit Services is donating the plates, napkins and cups. He says the Threshers are looking forward to their annual show the 3rd weekend in August in which the featured equipment will be Oliver Hart Parr.
Dave Jutz says the Threshers will host a tractor pull on May 24th. He says they’ve been busy over the winter months getting things ready for their August show and there’s a new building.
Jutz says the cost for Sunday’s Grilled Pork Chop Dinner is $15, with a 2nd pork chop available for an additional $5; $8 for children 5-to-12; and free for children 4 and under. He says it’s dine-in or take-out, with gluten-free options available, and the Threshers Building is just south of Forest City – off of Highway 24 – look for the threshers parked near the highway, and the signs.
The Minnesota State Fair and the Minnesota Farm Bureau are recognizing 68 Minnesota farms as 2026 Century Farms. Qualifying farms have been in continuous family ownership for at least 100 years and are 50 acres or more.
Century Farm families receive a commemorative sign, as well as a certificate signed by Minnesota State Fair and Minnesota Farm Bureau presidents and Governor Tim Walz. Since the program began in 1976, more than 11,000 Minnesota farms have been recognized as Century Farms.
Family farms are recognized as a Century Farm when three requirements are met. The farm must be at least 100-years-old according to authentic land records; in continuous family ownership for at least 100-years; and at least 50 acres and must currently be involved in agricultural production.
The 2026 Century Farms include: Forsberg Farms of Dassel in Meeker County, established in 1901; Magnuson Farm of Lake Lillian in Kandiyohi County, established in 1876; and Sietsema Family Farm of Sacred Heart in Renville County, established in 1926.
